Donald Bruce Geer, age 76, passed away on September 4th, 2013 at Cottage in the Meadow in Yakima, WA. He was surrounded by his loving family. Bruce was born on September 11th, 1936 in Bethany, Missouri to Donald E. and Bonnie Geer.
He graduated in 1954 from Yakima High School (Davis). He married Patricia Allen in 1955. They had 3 children before she passed away in March 1970.
Bruce started his adult life working at Weyerhauser before going into the construction business. Geer Construction was started by Bruce’s father and employed family members including Bruce, his brother Jerry, his brother in law Roy Campbell, as well as Grandpa Geer. Over the years son Marc, nephew Randall, nephew Mark, and son in law Ron Anderson went to work there also. Bruce was the owner when he retired from Construction in 1989. He built many apartment complexes, including those at Lake Aspen, the Oakes, and the Fisher Apartments. He also built many custom homes and offices at Lake Aspen as well as throughout the valley. In 1989 he bought Classic Printing and then sold it to son Scott in 1996.
Bruce married Patsy Lamb on June 4th, 1971 and thus began our “Brady Bunch” years. They had just celebrated 42 years of marriage. Patsy had 4 children of her own to go with his 3 children. The first five were stair stepped one year apart. Can you imagine having 5 teenagers in a row? Dad kept us busy with many activities such as camping, jeeping, fishing, target shooting, boating, water skiing, and snowmobiling.
When Bruce took on a hobby he got in with both feet. He learned everything about his new hobby. He got into snowmobiling in 1972 and continued that for 25 years. He was the guy who came up with the concept of “tapered tunnels” and “lifted suspensions” with his nephew Johnny and his brother in law Eddy. Our whole family rode together. Dad got into CB radios and his handle was Six Gun. He later got into ham radios and his call sign was AB7XA. He was a “General” technician which is as high a level as you can attain. Over the years he was also a “quick draw” in gun competitions, golden glove boxer, and in his later years a computer repairman.
Dad was most proud of his family and their accomplishments. His family spent a lot of time lovingly caring for him at home the past 2 months. Bruce is survived by his loving wife Patsy (Pat) Geer ,sisters Georgia Geer and Ginger Emigh. Brothers Gale Geer and Jerry Geer. He is survived by his children: Carrie (Ron) Anderson, Scott (Leslie) Geer, Traci (Jeb) Barlow, Ronna (Paul) Younie, Lisa (Brian) Bruner, and Darcy (Scott) Raymond. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren, and 11 great grand children.
He was predeceased by his first wife Patricia, his parents Don & Bonnie Geer, and son Marc Lamb.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Brady and Dr Uhlman for his care. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Cottage in the Meadow. Viewing will be at 2 pm, Monday September 9th at Keith & Keith Funeral Home on Yakima avenue. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 11th at 2pm.
