Donald Emroy Hanks

He grew up dairy farming with his family in Wisconsin. He served in the US Army 1958-1961. After an honorable military discharge, he worked in civil service. While stationed at Yakima Firing Center he met Rosella (Rose) Roller and they were married August 6, 1960, at St Paul cathedral. Dad worked for Weyerhaeuser for a brief period, the next 32 years at Terrace Heights Memorial Park as groundskeeper and shop foreman. He worked at Bob Hall’s Sunfair Chevrolet transporting dealer cars until the age of 75. He loved to fish, hunt and camp with family and friends. He loved animals and we had chickens, ducks, turkeys, dogs, cats, cows, and a pony at various times. He loved to garden and grew many vegetables and flowers, especially Dahlias. His lawn was immaculate.

He is survived by his children Peggy (Larry) Couette, Donna Selig, Donny Hanks, Ken Hanks, and Mike (Debbie) Hanks, sister in laws Virginia Ellis and Nancy Andrews Roxanne (Jim) Lowry 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Rosella Hanks, his parents, Hiram and Marion Hanks, brother Larry Hanks, mother, and father-in-law Valand Ida Roller, sister-in-law Delores Roller, brother-in-law David Roller, stepmother-in-law Monica Roller, stepbrother-in-law and his wife, Bill, and Charlene Heinsen and one Grandchild, Michael Hanks.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, September 15, 2023 at Rainier Memorial Center, 2807 Terrace Heights Dr, Yakima, WA 98901
