

Doris Edith Olson, age 89, of Yakima, Washington, went to be with the Lord on February 2, 2013. Doris was born on December 31, 1923 in Tacoma, Washington to parents John and Mehetable Long and shared the house with five sisters and two brothers.
Doris graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, WA in 1941. She started work with the Tacoma school board, moved to Tacoma City Light and then transferred to the Tacoma Police Department where she stayed until marriage.
Doris met James Olson while he was on leave from the US Navy. It was love at first sight, and she told her best friend that this was the man she was going to marry. She was right, and they married on May 31, 1946. Doris moved to Yakima at that time and the two of them went to work growing apples and pears. Children were the center of her life as she raised 5 kids while continuing to work on the ranch and various office jobs in town. Some of the best times were camping with the kids and friends at Rimrock Lake, Little Naches River, Klickitat Meadows and annual trips to Hood Canal on the coast. Jim and Doris were very active and loved boating, snowmobiling, hiking, and RVing. They enjoyed many trips together all over the US, as well as Canada, Europe, Norway, and Cuba.
In her later years she had many fond memories of all her friends in Yakima. From the Foxy Ladies exercise group and the many trips with friends from the Harman Senior Center in West Valley. She was a member of the Union Gap Lions Club and Holy Family Catholic Church.
Doris is survived by her 5 children, Jean Myer of Sitka Alaska, Kenneth Olson of Yakima WA, Susan Henderson of Mechanicsburg, PA., Sally Abshire of Omak, WA and Jim Olson of Okanogan, WA, 8 grandchildren; Bernie, Lane, Eric, Brian, Matthew, Ben, Becky, and Krista; and 12 great grandchildren.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mehetable Long; 5 sisters, Annie, Lollie, Irene, Eva, and Ruby, two brothers, Ray and Jack; and her husband Jim.
A visitation and vigil will be held on Friday, February 8th at Langevin Mussetter funeral home at 6 pm. A mass of Christian burial service will be held on Saturday, February 9th, 10 am. at Holy Family Catholic church with a graveside service following at Calvary Cemetery.
