Surrounded by her loving family, Dorothy B. Mead passed away peacefully on March 16th, 2016. She was born on July 19, 1923 in Yakima to her proud parents, Dr. Delmar Foster and Olga Bice. Dorothy and her younger brother Delmar, were raised in Yakima where she attended Yakima Schools and graduated in 1941. During grade school, she met the love of her life, Robert L. Mead, and they were later married on November 11, 1944.
Dorothy's favorite childhood memories were filled with years of dancing and Camp Fire. She loved telling stories about Camp Roganunda and showing us all pictures of her many dance recitals. After high school, she attended The University of Washington pursuing a degree in Bacteriology. She joined the Delta Delta Delta sorority and was a proud alumni through the years.
Dorothy and Bob raised three children in Selah; Kay, Patti and Bobby. Throughout the years, her focus was always on family and as each generation grew, so did her heart. She always had a deep love for her animals and treated each of her pets with compassion and love. Her time was spent taking care of all the people that she loved, playing bridge, and supporting all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in all of their endeavors. She loved vacationing over the years with family, spending time in the Hawaiian islands (especially Maui) at their Rimrock cabin and at the Washington beaches. She watched thousands of sporting events, attended hundreds of school functions and many graduations, recitals, musicals and plays. And she loved each and every minute of it. Spending time with her family was her most treasured past time and she spent 92 years full of creating these memories. She was also a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church.
Dorothy is survived by; her three children and spouses, Kay and PeeWee McDevitt, Patti and Pat O'Farrell, and Bob and Cindy Mead; her six grandchildren and spouses, Geoff and Daunne O'Farrell, Shawn and Diane McDevitt, Rob and Brandy O'Farrell, Mindy and Dennis Forbes, Cory and Shannon Mead and Jennie and Jeremiah Johnson; and twelve amazing great grandchildren... Nathan and Justin O'Farrell, Kayla and Alyssa O'Farrell, Jacob and Joelle Forbes, Lauren and Tristan McDevitt, Zachary and Delaney Mead and Izzy and Addee Johnson; and her sisters-in-law Jean Odman and Virginia Bice. She is also leaving behind her best friend and furry companion Daisy the cat. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of sixty two years, Bob, both of her parents, her brother and an infant sister.
Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to Julie Ricard, her care giver and friend for the last several years. We would also like to thank Regional Hospice Care, especially JoAnn Stillwaugh, for their support the past few weeks and for the compassionate care she received over the last few years from Dr. Pommer and staff.
