Dorothy (Dot) Campbell peacefully joined her husband, Lonnie, in heaven on March 16, 2017. She was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and sisters. She was instructing her family, even minutes before her passing.
Dot was born in Poplar Bluff, MO to Milburn and Elsie (Stage) Estes, and was the third of seven daughters. As a young woman, Dot was singing in the church and a young man peeked in the door. Upon seeing this beautiful girl singing, he fell in love with his Dottie. This began the 61-year journey of Lonnie and Dot Campbell. Soon after, they were married. They relocated to Avenal, CA with their infant son Lonnie Richard (Rick). Fourteen months later, a baby girl Donna, was born into the family. Several years later, they moved to their little farm in Gleed, WA where Jim and Tracy were added, making a family of six.
Dot was a devoted employee of Snokist until her retirement. She endured many life threatening physical ailments in her life, but always persevered, never complaining and never stopped loving the adventure of life. The joy of Dot’s life was her family. She faithfully attended all sporting events of her children and grandchildren, and she loved to cook their favorite meals. She loved each of them unconditionally and they all refer to her as ‘MAM’.
Lonnie and Dot would travel to St. Louis every year to visit Rick and his family. She enjoyed a road trip, and she drove most of the way. Dot loved to drive and rarely rode as a passenger. A method of travel she didn’t like was flying. She said if they would allow her to fly the airplane, it would be ok. Dot was a loyal Cardinal baseball fan and she and Lonnie never missed a game on T.V.
Dot was the kind of person that always had a listening ear for a lonely soul. She was a very brilliant, well-informed woman, with much wisdom. She was a devout follower of Jesus Christ, who loved her God and her church. She supported any endeavor her church undertook.
Her church, Intersection Church, with Pastor Curtis Johnstone and family was a very integral part of her life. Thank you Pastor Johnstone for your generous amount of time spent at the hospital with the family this week, praying for Dot and the family as she transitioned from this life.
Dorothy is leaving behind Rick and Roberta Campbell, St. Louis, MO; Donna and Collin Bales, Yakima, WA; Jim and Ardith Campbell, Yakima, WA; Tracy and Dexter Holmes, Tacoma, WA; her grandchildren Rachelle and Micah Inserra; Justin Holmes; Jamie Bales and fiancée Andrew Root; Zach Campbell; A.J. and Amber Campbell; Ben Campbell and fiancé Kelsey Wilcox; Elizabeth Holmes; Caleb Bales and fiancé Bridget Lain; Nate Holmes; Jordan Campbell; her great grandchildren Nathaniel Campbell, Anthony and Dominic Inserra; and her three sisters Peggy Orr, Judy and Dan Johnson, and Kathy Fast.
Preceding her in death are her loving husband Lonnie, her parents Milburn and Elsie Estes, her sisters Wanda, Melba and Pat. Rest in peace Mom as you sing with the angels. We are broken hearted, but hold you close in our hearts. Mom, hug Dad for us and tell him the Cardinals are looking pretty good this year.
