Born in Yakima on July 19, 1963 to parents Don and Nadyne and siblings Dan and Gail, Doug was an amazing person from an early age. During his years as a West Valley High School Ram, Doug was a standout athlete in both baseball and basketball, going on to play both sports at Central Washington University. A favorite memory of Doug’s was the opportunity he had during his time at Central to represent the United States playing in a basketball tournament in Singapore. He graduated with honors in 1987 and married Wendy Bepple that same year. They have two sons, Steven and Sam, who were his greatest joy. Doug later married Nichole Parsons in 2008, and they have been married for 17 years.
Those that knew Doug will remember him for his quick-witted humor, generosity, and unwavering faith in God. For 38 years, he worked in sales for Fruit Packers Supply in Yakima, and cared personally about each one of his clients. His compassion and work ethic fostered a loving community and were an example to all who knew him. He volunteered his time at the Yakima Union Gospel Mission, served on the board of Yakima Specialties from 2013-2018, and his cooking at the annual Wiley Heights Covenant cookout fundraiser was always highly anticipated.
During his formative years, Doug grew in his faith at Wiley Heights Covenant and after moving to Selah, they found Memorial Bible Church. Doug cared deeply and wholeheartedly for his family, especially his sons and his wife Nichole. He was also very excited to welcome his new daughter-in-law Olivia to the family, whom he had lovingly nicknamed O. He enjoyed spending quality time with his family playing golf, fishing, watching sports, cooking, and barbecuing together. Doug was always teaching his sons good life skills and about the importance of being generous and kind above all. Doug’s spirit will live on in the hearts of his friends and family; may his memory be a blessing and inspire us on our own journey with the Lord.
A funeral service will be held at Memorial Bible Church on Monday, October 6 at 1 PM followed by a celebration of life at Provisions at 3 PM.
