Edna Mae Fuchs (89) went home peacefully to the Lord on Friday, February 25, 2022. She was dearly loved and will be fiercely missed by her family and friends. She was born the daughter of Joseph and Margaret (Miller) Thomas on September 18, 1932, in Richardton, North Dakota. When she was 8 years old, her family moved from North Dakota to Yakima, WA where she lived a majority of her life. Throughout her life, Edna valued family and faith more than anything. A devout Catholic, Edna instilled the importance of faith in her family. She married the love of her life, Leonard Fuchs, on November 23, 1957.
Beginning after high school, Edna worked at Newberry’s where she remained a loyal employee until the birth of her second child. Once Steve was about a year old, she began taking children into her home to care for them while their parents worked. This was the beginning of her in home daycare service – one that she offered for 25 years. Her love for children was rooted deeply within her, as she once aspired to work for an orphanage.
Edna was a bright and gentle spirit who had a deep love for caring for others. Her generosity certainly never went unnoticed, and her community loved this about her. In addition to caring for others, Edna enjoyed spending her time doing needle point, hand embroidery, word search puzzles, dancing on Saturday nights, and of course playing cards. She was a fierce competitor, especially when it came to Phase 10 and Pinochle. There was rarely a holiday that passed without an intense card match against Edna.
Edna’s love for God, family, and of course her community will never be forgotten. She is survived by her children Charlene and Ralph Tracy and Steve and Marilyn Fuchs; her grandchildren Christina and Jordan Morgan, Erin Hilgendorf, Melissa and Ryan Kasson, Kyrie and Joel Chandler, Ariel and Jordan Tucker, and Adelaide and Justin Kirchner; her great grandchildren Titus Tucker, Zion Tucker, Rylee Kasson, Huntley Kasson, and Elizabeth Kirchner.
She is preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Margaret Thomas; her husband Leonard, her brothers Al Thomas, Robert Thomas, George Thomas; her sisters Isabel James, Rose Fuller, Frieda Lockbeam, and Loretta Carl.
There is a visitation at Langevin Funeral Home on Tuesday 3/8 from 4:00 – 8:00 with the family greeting guest from 5:00 until 7:00.
There will be a Catholic Mass on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at 10:00am at Holy Family Catholic Church in Yakima, WA.
A luncheon to celebrate her life will be held at Holy Family immediately following the Mass.
