Eidwell G. "Ed" Sherbahn, 88, of Yakima, Washington, passed away on May 26, 2026.
Ed was born on April 11, 1938, in Madison Nebraska, to Gordon and Fama Sherbahn. The oldest of four children, he carried with him a lifelong appreciation for hard work, the outdoors and above all, family.
After graduating from Yakima High in 1957, Ed proudly served his country. He began in the National Guard and Army Reserve before transferring into the United States Army, where he served from 1957 to 1961. Stationed in Germany, a place he spoke of often, Ed earned the Good Conduct Medal, Expert Badge for Carbine, and Sharpshooter Badge in Rifle. He took great pride in his service and remained a deeply patriotic man throughout his life, as well as a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
On September 20, 1980, Ed married Sue Mowrey in Yakima. Together they shared 29 years of marriage filled with love and partnership until Sue's passing in 2009. She remained in his heart always.
Ed worked for many years as a pipe fitter at Morton Supply and spent weekends working at the Yakima Speedway, where he combined his love of cars with time spent among friends. Earlier in life, he worked on the family farm, shaping his lifelong connection to the outdoors.
In his school days he played baseball as a pitcher, at which time he also played on the Yakima Police Department team in which he would sometimes pitch for both teams in a single day. As he got older he then played on a men's softball team and they were state champions for many years. He always carried with him the love of the game and would never miss his grandsons or great grandsons games.
He found joy in the simple things, fishing, hunting, camping, time at the beach, and working in his yard. He had a passion for collecting many things and a special love for old cars. He was also a dedicated fan of the Seattle Seahawks and the Seattle Mariners, rarely missing a chance to follow his teams. But more than anything, Ed treasured time with his family especially family barbeques, birthdays and holidays. Those moments, big and small meant the most to him.
Ed also gave back to his community, dedicating over 20 years of volunteer service to the Yakima Greenway which he truly loved.
He is lovingly remembered by his children, Debi (Wayne) Roberson, Diane Hall, Roy (Shawn) Sherbahn, and Teresa Spanbauer; his grandchildren, Bob (Tara), Randy (Michelle) Roberson, Kandi (Johnny) Asuncion, Craig, Brett, Austin and Tim Sherbahn, Robert and Nick Spanbauer and his great-grandchildren, Erik Hallingstad and NateRoberson plus his special grand dog Remi. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne (Shirley) Sherbahn, and his closest niece Teri Hill and close friend Jerry Balzer.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Sue, his son Eidallen, his parents Gordon and Fama Sherbahn and his brothers, Rodney and Lyle Sherbahn.
A graveside service will be held on June 22, 2026, at Terrace Heights Memorial Park at 11:00 am, with a reception to follow at Heights Church located at 101 Birchfield Road, Yakima. Everyone is invited to share in his memory.
Ed will be remembered for his quiet strength, his deep love for his family, and the steady, dependable presence he brought to those around him. His legacy lives on in the stories shared, the traditions carried forward, and the memories that will always be held close.
In honoring Ed's life, may we all be reminded of the importance of living with selflessness, loving deeply, standing proudly for what we believe in, and cherishing every moment we have with family.
