The Lord Jesus called Eleda Mae Johnson to her heavenly home on June 27, 2026. Eleda passed peacefully at 95, in her home in Yakima, Washington. Born in Seattle, Washington, on October 25, 1930, to Nora (Tolesfrud) and Christen Hereim, Eleda attended West Seattle High School and the University of Washington. During her summer breaks, she would go to Tieton, Washington, where she worked as a recreation assistant in a summer recreation program with the Tieton School District.
During one of these summers, Eleda met Lester (Les) I. Johnson while attending a local baseball game on the Tieton school grounds. On May 5, 1950, Les and Eleda were married at the Tieton Presbyterian Church. Together, they operated a dairy farm in the lower Naches area before moving to Tampico in 1958, where they operated a combined cattle ranch and farm. In 1972, they moved to Tampico Park, which they developed, and began developing land across Washington State and Canada.
Eleda was active as a leader in Women’s Bible Study Fellowship and later served as an administrative assistant. Along with others, she was instrumental in the vision and construction of Tampico Community Church.
Eleda raised five children and provided a loving, Christ-filled home which often smelled of homemade bread and home-cooked food. As an avid potter she was accepted into Village Art in the Park in Leavenworth, Washington. Eleda loved to hike and at the age of 50 she climbed to Camp Muir on Mt. Rainier.
Eleda is survived by four remaining children, Debbie (Tim) Griffith, Sandi (Marvin) Burton, JoAnne Daniels, Randy (Melissa) Johnson, nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren, sister Ardeth Morris and many nieces and nephews. Eleda is preceded in death by her husband Les Johnson, son Gary Johnson, son-in-law Russ Daniels, and brother-in-law Bob Morris.
Graveside services will be held July 8, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the West Hills Memorial Park in Yakima, Washington.
