

Betty graduated from Orono High school in 1953, and Gorham State Teachers’ College in 1957. She was a first grade teacher for a few years prior to meeting her future husband William Walden, who was an officer in the Navy. They were married in July of 1962 at Mare Island Naval Shipyard, and went to Kauai for their honeymoon. She lived in Hawaii for over 40 years, with fifteen years in Volcano on the Big Island, and most of the rest near Hawaii Kai on Oahu. She was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and she loved wired-hair fox terriers.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Commander William Walden USN, and her sister, Jayne. She is survived by her two sons, John and James Walden, her grandchildren, Nathan and Malia Walden, and her sisters, Rita Desjardins and Sandra Jenness.
She was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous with 25 years sober.
