Elsie Jean Jensen

Elsie grew up in North Dakota, and married Rudolph L. Jensen in Westby, Montana, on July 15, 1943. They moved to Yakima, Washington in 1947.

Elsie was confirmed and baptized at Bethlehem Lutheran Church on March 22, 1951. She remained an active and dedicated member of the church all her life.

Elsie worked in food service for Yakima School District for many years, and she especially enjoyed all the kids at Gilbert Elementary and Nob Hill Elementary. She volunteered at St. Elizabeth (now Regional) Hospital in the kitchen for many years after she retired. She and Rudy enjoyed many years of travel with the Good Sam Club. Elsie was a member of Terrace Heights Lions Club and Terrace Heights Improvement Association. She loved to walk with her dog, play cards with her many friends and garden, garden, garden.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Rudolph. She is survived by four children: Lorraine Jensen of Bellevue, WA, Larry Jensen of Yakima, Leslie Jensen of Pullman, WA and Mavis Velikanje (George) of Yakima; and a granddaughter, Jenae Johnson, who is currently living in Japan. She is also survived by a brother, Harvey (Maxine) Coons of Anoka, MN, and a sister, Lois Christensen of Minot, North Dakota. Four siblings preceded her in death.

In lieu of flowers, some of Elsie’s favorite charities were The Nursing Center at Living Care Retirement Community, Yakima, WA; the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) at Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Yakima, WA; Bethlehem Lutheran’s Youth Group and its Pre-School.

The family extends its sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and all staff at both Memorial Home Care/Hospice Program and to Cottage in the Meadow.

Visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm, Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Keith and Keith Funeral Home.

Memorial service will be held 1:30 pm, Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Meyer Auditorium of Living Care Center, 215 N. 40th Ave., Yakima, WA.

A private interment will be held prior to the memorial service at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
