Erma was married to Charles Allen Simmons on October 31, 1941 in Wapato, Washington. Erma and Al had two sons, Ted and Ron. Erma and Al both grew up in Wapato where they decided to settle for over 45 years and raise their two boys. During those years, it was devotion to husband, children, sisters, and her mother. One of their favorite pastimes was traveling in trailers throughout the Northwest and Canada. They always enjoyed dancing and belonged to the 30/30 Dance Club. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America for over 65 years and held numerous leadership positions. She loved to decorate for every holiday and her home was always welcoming to anyone who stopped to visit. She would always fix up something for everyone to eat or bring out her cookies and peaches. Her home was always meticulously kept and everything she did was always to perfection.
In Erma’s later years, she and her dear friend Lucy Winder loved watching the Seahawks and Mariners games together and enjoyed going to the casino on seafood day for dinner and to pull a few slots. Erma was proud of her Indian heritage as a member of the Karuk tribe in Northern California. She made several trips over the years to visit her grandparents homestead and gravesite.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Al, her son Ted, two sisters, Buelah Treise of Selah, and Cleo Imel of Wapato, and a special friend Dale Chinn. She is survived by her son Ron and his wife Wilma of Union Gap, grandsons Kevin and Tammy of Kennewick, David and Secrett of Wenatchee, Kevin Allen of North Carolina, granddaughter Kena and Todd Chase of Peach Tree City, Georgia, sixteen great grandchildren, ten great great grandchildren, a sister, Ruby Martin and her husband Les of Yakima, and several nieces and nephews. She was an inspiration to all of us and we will miss her very much.
The family would like to thank the staff, caregivers, and nurses at the Cottage in the Meadow, Memorial Home Hospice, Dr. Mark Joy, and Dr. George Hotchko.
Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 7 pm, Tuesday, May 23rd at Keith & Keith Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 1 pm, Wednesday, May 24th at West Hills Memorial Park.
