Florence Barbara Armstrong

Florence was born on August 21, 1934 in Yakima, WA to parents Lola and Platt Parker; she grew up in White Swan, WA and graduated valedictorian from White Swan High School. After graduating from the Yakima School of Business, she worked for Yakima Cement, now known as Western Materials, retiring after 45 years.

Florence was a great family-oriented women and a loving mother. She married Donald Armstrong on December 1, 1966, raising their children together in Yakima.

Mom was socially active and deeply involved with family and friends. She enjoyed visiting the casino, cheering on the Seattle Seahawks, as well as going on road trips to the beach with her husband and siblings. Her fondest memories were of going on ocean cruises with her husband, Don. Mom loved reading and learning new things. Her family and friends will always remember her as a wonderful, giving mother and grandmother to all.

Florence is survived by her children: Mark (Chris) Medina of Yakima, Gary Armstrong of Seattle, Donald (Kat) Armstrong of Lewiston, ID, Janice Armstrong of Tacoma and Carolyn Johnson of Tulsa, OK. Florence is also survived by her grandchildren: Richard (Charlie) Medina, Derek (Sarah) Armstrong, Donald (Staci) Armstrong, Kalen Armstrong, Katie Buelher, Sherissa Buehler, as well as numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Lola and Platt Parker, her husband Donald Armstrong, her sister Frieda Bariault and her brothers, Bill Parker and Platt Parker.

Her memorial service will be Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:00 am at Rainier Memorial Center; 2801 Terrace Heights Drive, Yakima, WA 98901, with a reception to follow.

The family would like to thank the staff at Good Samaritan for giving Mom not only excellent care, but an enriched and purposeful life; Virginia Mason Memorial Hospital for their advanced care and dedication; and Cottage In the Meadow for their loving care, support and compassion during mom's final hours.
