Frances Evelyn Lockwood passed away on December 2, 2022, at the age of 96. Frances was born March 20, 1926 to Jack and Ethel (Soden) Hayenga in Yakima, Washington. Her sister, Ruby, followed a year later. Frances graduated from Yakima High School Class of 1942-½. Shortly after graduation, she met Gill Lockwood, who was an Army soldier from New York stationed at the Firing Center in WA. They married in May of 1944, before he was sent off to Germany in WWII. Their first child, Kenneth, was born on her 19th birthday, followed by Jack and then Christie. They bought a house on 8th Avenue where they raised their family and formed long lasting friendships with their neighbors. Frances and the other moms on the block started a Pinochle Club that met monthly for over 60 years! She was well known in the neighborhood for her famous chocolate chip cookies and had a hard time keeping the cookie jar full! After her kids were raised, she worked at Grange Insurance Claims for over 20 years.
Gill and Frances were members of the Yakima Cricket's Trailer Club, traveling to group outings and enjoying their camping buddies. After Gill's sudden passing in 1981, Frances bought a Flair mini-motorhome. This allowed her to continue camping with the trailer club, with family, and taking the grandkids on camping adventures. Lots of fun memories with the Flair!
Frances was involved in church activities, including many areas of volunteering, teaching and attending Sunday School (the last being the Golden Circle Sunday School Class) and was a long time member of the Edith Ferry Circle. She was also active in many groups, including the Widow Support Group, Broadway Grange, coloring groups, craft groups and exercise groups, She was a member of the Mini-Bunch Miniature Club and transformed many wooden boxes into room scene shadowboxes using miniature furniture and accessories. This was an activity she enjoyed into her 90's. She also spent many hours attending her grandkids sporting events as their #1 fan. Frances learned to play piano at a young age and would always gather the family together on Christmas Eve to sing Christmas songs before opening presents! She was often asked to bring her delicious chocolate dessert to social gatherings.
Frances had unwavering faith in the Lord, beginning with her and Ruby walking to First Presbyterian Church (Grace of Christ) when she was 10 years old. She continued to be very active at that church until her health declined.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gill, sister Ruby, and granddaughter-in-law, Jenni Lockwood.
She is survived by children, son Ken (Linda) Lockwood and their children, Suzanne (Arnie) Mackey, Greg Lockwood and Steve (Joy) Lockwood; son Jack Lockwood and his son, Scott Lockwood; and daughter Chris (Doyle) Urquhart and their children, Dustin Urquhart, Brad (Susie) Urquhart and Katelyn Urquhart (Malcolm Keys); great grandchildren: Trevor, Bryce and Kaylee Mackey, Gwen and Amy Lockwood, Alena, Maris and Henrik Lockwood, Amelia and Lincoln Urquhart and Jacoby Keys; a very special niece Lola; and nephews Roger, Billie and Brock.

A short graveside service will be held at Terrace Heights Memorial Park on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Memorial service Grace of Christ Presbyterian Church, at 11:30 am.
