

Gale E. Shilman, 70 of Yakima passed away at her home surrounded by her two sons and grandchildren. Gale was born on April 17, 1940 and raised on a farm in Ellendale, North Dakota. She later married Darwin Shilman and the couple moved to Yakima in 1965 to live and raise a family. Gale was a devoted wife, mother and Christian. She was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran church in Yakima. Gale was very active in the lives of her two sons which included taking her sons to swimming, baseball and various other sports. Gale enjoyed home making, cooking for her family, camping trips, travel, fishing, gardening and was an avid and loyal Seattle Mariners Baseball fan. Gale also worked in various fruit warehouses around the Yakima Valley and eventually retired in 2000.
She is survived by her son Glenn Shilman, his wife Elizabeth and granddaughter Katie of Kent WA, Steve Shilman, his wife Anna Hardy and grandsons Quinn and Andrew of Bellevue WA. Gale is also survived by brothers Doran Hiepler of Riverdale, ND, twin brother Dale Hiepler of Ellendale ND, Richard Hiepler of Lemon Grove, CA, sisters Vi Niederbaumer of Wecota, SD, Betty Zundel of Aberdeen, SD and Marilyn Burns of Dallas, TX. Gale was preceded in death by her husband Darwin Shilman and her parents Ferd and Emily Hiepler.
Viewing and visitation will be held from 12:00 until 5:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. A celebration of Gale's life will be held at the Keith &Keith Terrace Heights Chapel on Monday, July 19th at 1:00 PM. Concluding service and burial will follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
