George Ellis Hyndman

George Ellis Hyndman left this life for his Heavenly home amidst his siblings August 27, 2026. He was born in Butte, Montana, on May 30th, 1948, to George and Edith Hyndman. He was a frail tot adored by his large extended family in Butte. The Hyndman family left Montana for Yakima, Washington, in 1953. There he attended H. M. Gilbert Elementery, Wilson Junior High School and Eisenhower High graduating with the Class of 1966. Known as El, he developed his artistic gifts and love of what was at that time highly technical film and sound equipment and worked on the Reville Annual Photo Staff, 1964 - 1966. The Eisenhower Cadet logo was designed, produced and displayed by him in the elder school building until it was replaced in 2013.

The Hyndman Family eventually moved to a gentlemen’s farm on South 27th in Yakima. El became a strong and hard worker, rising early to help milk their four Guernseys, smudging, thinning, pruning, propping and picking the orchards, cutting and laying up hay, repairing and painting, demolishing out buildings and building the new family cottage and home.

As a High School Senior, El sustained injuries and loss of an eye in a Chem class contamination explosion. From that time onward, all students would be obliged to wear eye protection in class. Despite his loss of vision, El continued to hone his talents in lettering, book binding, cartooning, printing and flip book making. His favorite entertainments were roller Skating on Dollar Friday nights, hanging with his sister and her friends, playing six and twelve string guitar, magic tricks, sketching and Miner’s Drive Inn.

Following his father’s lead, George developed carpentry skills and wood carving. Among other things, he created a complete set of 1/12th scale shop tools for his Dad. He would later use those skills building a farm style home in Bothel, Washington, for his wife and sons.

George, along with his family, was a long-time member of the Westpark EUB Church and more recently attended Tieton Drive Bible Chapel.

George was greeted at Heaven’s gate by his mother, father, family and friends. He is survived by sons, Will (Alyssa) of California, Charlie of California, former wife Mary of Stanwood, Sisters Nancy Schweitzer (Richard) of Gig Harbor, Peggy Reasy (Chuck) of Sammamish, brother Gary (Vik) of Yakima, seven nieces and nephews and twelve grand nieces and nephews all of whom call him “Uncle Magic”.
