George A. Jahr

George started his legendary life in Meuchen, Germany. He was born to Ilse and Albin Jahr on a cold January day. From the moment he was born the stories and smiles began and never stopped.

George lived with his parents in Meuchen until he was done with primary education. At the age of 14 he left homeland and headed off to trade school to be a butcher. After a couple of years George was given the opportunity to test out of trade school early… HE PASSED! Which meant he was now ready to start his career at the age of 17 as a butcher.

While working as a butcher he met his wife Erika. At the age of 23 on a summer August day they were wed. Their first year of marriage was a whirlwind. In May of 1957 they moved to Calgary, Canada where they were soon blessed with a sweet baby boy ( Peter). The next move was to Selah, WA in February of 1963 with this move they were then blessed with a beautiful baby girl (Barbara). Over the next 30 years George held a variety of jobs. He worked making sausage, at the Larsen building, roofing homes and Noel's.

The early 90’s were greeted with George and his wife Erika opening up their own business in Selah called Jahr’s European Sausage. This is where he was finally able to put all his training into action with the love and recipes of home. When George wasn't working in the shop you could often find him helping to maintain their picturesque yard (usually mowing with a grandchild chasing behind him). Going dancing with his wife or shooting the breeze over a beer and cake with friends.

In the later 90’s George’s son, Peter, took over the business where George continued to work for the next 20 years. Upon finally retiring George continued his busy lifestyle, always tinkering, gardening, going on walks and chopping wood. George was preceded in death by his parents Ilse and Albin Jahr, his son/friend Peter Jahr. He is survived by his wife Erika Jahr, daughter Barbara Jahr, daughter in law Lonni Jahr, Grandchildren Sunni Tapscott (Forrest), Summer Clark (Jason), Ryan Jahr and multiple Great Grandchildren.

A visitation for George will be held Thursday, April 27, 2023 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home. A celebration of life will occur Friday, April 28, 2023 at 11:00 am Officiated by Rev. Mark Griesse.
