Born on August 27, 1946, in Pasco, Washington, Gerald was the beloved son of Albert and Marian Fassler and a cherished brother to the late James Fassler.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Dawna Hibler-Fassler; their daughter, Sandra Fassler-Ferguson, and her partner, Darren Sonnen; and their son, Steven Fassler, and wife, Lori Fassler. He was a proud grandfather to Dillon Fassler and partner, Elaina, and their daughter Louella, as well as to his granddaughter, Haley Fassler.
Gerald is also survived by his brother David and wife Ardis of Pasco, and sister Theresa of Oregon, along with several nieces and nephews.
Gerald grew up on a small farm and graduated high school in Prosser. Soon after, Gerald moved to Seattle, where he began a long and dedicated 39-year career at Boeing, painting over 800 rudders for 757 aircraft. He also served with honor as a volunteer firefighter for over a decade with District 44 in Auburn and Boeing. Gerald retired from Boeing in 2007.
In 2008, he and Dawna returned to Eastern Washington, settling in Yakima, where he spent his retirement surrounded by family, nature, and the beauty of the changing seasons.
A true family man, Gerald found joy in the simple pleasures- fishing, camping with his children, playful family games, and lovingly teasing his kids. He and Dawna shared a deep bond,
traveling across the United States together and creating memories that will be cherished forever.
In retirement, Gerald enjoyed target shooting, woodworking, making jewelry, watching Hallmark movies, listening to music, and spending quiet afternoons outside with Dawna, watching birds. He had a special place in his heart for his cat, Finnegan, and never missed a chance to share a story about his furry friend.
Gerald's legacy is one of love, laughter, and deep family connection. He will be profoundly missed by all who knew him.
A private gathering will be held to honor his life later. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to share a memory of Gerald or make a donation in his name to a local animal shelter or charity of your choice.
