
Gladys May (Adkins) Woods was born April 12, 1915 at Lemmon, SD to George and Ella May (Irvin) Adkins. Gladys was the 6th child of 8 children all now deceased. Gladys attended Adkins one room school through the 8th grade, in Perkins County. The school was 12 miles from her home. The winters were so cold it was impossible for her to continue her schooling.
When Gladys was 19 years old the Adkins family moved from South Dakota to Granger, WA where she met Clyde Woods and was married December 16, 1935. They were married for 71 years when Clyde passed away at the age of 94 in 2007.
Gladys worked for Snokist Cannery for 19 ½ years before they moved to Lake Tahoe, CA where she and Clyde worked for 3 hotel/motels for seven years before retiring and then moved back to Selah, WA.
During their retirement years Clyde and Gladys spent their time traveling southwest, camping and clam digging with their family and friends.
In January 2007 they relocated to Valley, WA to be near their daughter and family. In May of 2010 Gladys moved to Pine Ridge Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Spokane Valley, WA.
Gladys leaves behind her daughter Arlis Dodge of Chewelah, WA; her son Lynn Woods and wife Sheila of Port Orchard, WA; grandsons Mike Dobbs of Spokane Valley, WA, Kenny Woods of Port Orchard, WA, Andrew Woods and wife Devan of Tahua, WA and Eric Richburg and wife Lizabeth of Bremerton, WA; and granddaughters Renae Bowen and husband Bruce of Yuma, AZ, Lori Horner and husband Eddy of New Port Richey, FL, Patti Raque and husband Ricardo of Bremerton, WA.
Gladys is blessed with several great-grandchildren as well as three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Gladys loved her flower garden and blackberry patch. Nothing delighted her more than sharing her blackberries with family and friends.
Her children and grandchildren were a large part of her life and she loved them all.
Visitation will be held at the Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at the Keith & Keith Ninth Avenue Chapel. Concluding services and burial will follow at West Hills Memorial Park.
