Born September 5, 1920 in Dalles, So.Dakota to Ervin M. and Lois Jane Tarr Schultz. His mother died when he was 2 days old, so his maternal Grandparents raised him. He loved his life growing up on the farm and going to the one room school house through grade school. He graduated in 1938 at Bonesteel, So Dakota High School.
On September 19, 1954 he married the Love of his Life, Roberta Jeanne Eddy Bower. The Lord gave them almost 53 Blessed years together. They were able to travel to all the states, but Hawaii. They had a wonderful once in a lifetime experience on their 2 month trip to Brazil and Paraguay visiting Missionaries. They shared the love of camping, fishing and the great outdoors and just enjoying life with us.
Proving to be a true "Jack of All Trades and Master of None", Dad not only farmed off and on throughout his life, but tried many other adventures. Among them was being in the CC's which he enjoyed. In Anaconda, Montana he worked at a newspaper office. He ran a dairy in St. Maries, Idaho. Worked in mines and at a sawmill near Kellogg, Idaho. And while living in Pinehurst, Idaho he had a milk route. It was in Pinehurst where Dad and Mom felt the Lord leading them towards a new adventure. So they ended up working at the Circle Bar J Boys Ranch in Colbert, Wa. for 4 years. Then onto the Flying H Boys Ranch in Naches, Wa. for 7 years. After leaving the Boys Ranch he worked for Layman Lumber Sawmill, in Naches. Upon retiring from the mill, the Lord moved them to join New Tribes Mission. Having been involved in many Missionaries lives since they lived in Pinehurst, it was a very exciting time for them.
At the Bible School in Jackson, Michigan, besides being one of the maintenance/handymen, he quickly became an Adopted Dad/Grandpa to many of the students. He always had a smile--hug-- listening ear and encouraging word for whoever came along needing one, Spreading the love of God was his goal. When they left the Bible School, it was to move to Newberg, Oregon to help
take care of Dad's Uncle. When he passed away, the Folks decide to move back to Yakima. Mom not being with us very long after that move, Dad came to live with Bob and Deb for 5 yrs. In the last couple of years, Dad spent his time with Ellen in California and Florida. When he came for Christmas the Lord worked things out for his decision to stay and live out the rest of his life in
Yakima again.
Dad had never met a stranger. We waited many a time while he stood talking to someone while he was pumping gas or whatever. His twinkling eyes and silly smiles brightened up a person's day. He had so much love & joy to share.
At the last stage of Dad's life, his old saying held much truth ... "lt's Not A Disgrace To Get Old .. .It's Just Inconvienent"!
Although we will miss him being with us physically, we are very proud to call this man, DAD, and grateful to have been able to have made So many lovingly shared memories that will tide us over till we meet again. Love you Dad-
