Harold P. Allen
February 21, 1927 – September 11, 2011
Harold Paul (HP) Allen was born in Yakima, Wash. On February 21, 1927 and passed away in his home on September 11, 2011.
Harold joined the Air Force and served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was an honest and hard-working man all his life. After serving in the military, he worked for the Northern Pacific Railroad. Later, he owned and operated three different service stations in Yakima; selling gas and doing mechanical repairs for anyone needing it. After selling his last service station, he started Allen’s Distributing Company, a wholesale candy and cigarette distribution business. Another of Harold’s businesses was Central Amusement Company, selling punchboards and pull-tabs to numerous bars and taverns across the valley. He also rented casino gambling equipment to non-profit organizations across the state, traveling many miles every year.
He was a well-respected man and was liked by many people. After his retirement, Harold went to the mountains to enjoy the outdoors that he loved so much. Over a 16 year period he purchased three different cabins in the mountains which he remodeled. He sold the first two cabins and enjoyed the third until he no longer could. Harold spent much of his time building beautiful furniture from the materials nature provided him. He fly fished many of the mountain streams and provided food for the deer, elk and many other mountain critters, often naming many of them and taking beautiful photos of them to share with anyone who wanted to see. Harold had a sharp wit and a fantastic sense of humor, as many people could attest to by the jokes he told.
Harold is survived by his wife of 65 years, Freda Allen of Yakima; one brother, Robert (Elanor) Allen of Poulsbo, Wash. and one sister, Kay (Del) Macke of Yakima; also his sons, Keith Allen and Kim Allen, and a daughter, Laurie Allen, all of Yakima, along with six grandchildren, Cheri, Kevin, Sean, Amy, Brandon and Christian.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Ruth (Mortiz) Allen, one brother, Fred Allen and a son, Kelly Allen.
