

Harvey Nelson Mayo Sr, passed away in his sleep on Monday morning on July 20, 2026, at the age of 93. He was born in Baxter, Georgia raised in Brunswick, Georgia.
Dan joined the Army at 18 years of age fighting in the Korean War, while on maneuvers in Yakima at the Yakima Training Center. He met our mother Viola Mae Swertz at a USG day and married her 6 weeks later. Dad was stationed at Joint Base Lewis McCord. When dad’s stint in the army was over, he moved to Yakima, WA, mom’s hometown. He moved at the age of 89, to California to be near his older son Harvey Jr and wife Toni. In his retirement home he met lovely lady friend Jeri Smith.
Dad left school at the age of 13 to help support a huge extended family even though he was an only child to Hazel McClain and Ben Mayo of the U.S. Navy.
When dad turned 16, he was a lifeguard in the ocean at St. Simons Island. Dad worked for 1 year at a gas station and 1 year helping lay tile in the many homes his in laws built in Yakima. He ended up working at Boise Cascade Mill in Yakima and retired from there.
Dad enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, boating and traveling. He started playing poker and got lots of recognition and won many tournaments in different states.
Dad is survived by his 3 children Harvey Nelson Mayo Jr, Georgia Lee Mayo-McKitrick, Larry Rae Mayo. 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and estranged wife Linda Mayo.
Dad is laid to rest with his family in Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
No formal service will be held, please celebrate his life in your own way.
