Henry William Korkalo (87) quietly and peacefully passed away on December 18, 2022. Henry was born August 21, 1935, in Yakima to Evert and Elise Korkalo. He attended Highland High School and continued to YVCC. Henry served in the Navy for 2 years, stationed primarily in Japan. After serving in the Navy, Henry eventually settled in San Francisco, CA. He attended San Francisco State College and graduated with Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus on languages. Henry then began a career in the travel industry, guiding many tours all over the world. He was proud to say that he had traveled around the world 4 times. His travels all over the world led to a passion for stamp collecting and he had amassed an extensive stamp collection, of which he was very proud. His second love, after traveling, was gardening. When he wasn't traveling on tours, he spent his days tending to his and his family's gardens.
Henry is preceded in death by his parents, Evert and Elsie Korkalo; sister, Elsie Wellington; and brothers, Voitto Korkalo and John Korkalo. He is survived by his sister, Lela Hansen; nieces, LeeAnn Smith, Christiane Hayes, Emily Greenough, and Kristi Forsell; nephew, Bill Wellington; and multiple great nieces and nephews.
Henry had a heart of gold, a zest for life, and he lived in the moment without worry. May you now rest in peace, Henry. You were loved. Henry's family would like to express gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Crescent Health Care for the compassionate care they provided Henry in the last years of his life.
