

Herb was born February 2, 1916 to Ferdinand and Alma (Loll) Hammermeister in Wahpeton, North Dakota, the youngest of nine siblings. Herb’s parents and family moved to west Yakima in 1920, bringing horses, cows and furniture by train.
Herb married Ruth Graves in 1941. Ruth was buried in 2010, after 69 wonderful years together. Herb was also preceded in death by his five brothers, Robert, Irwin, Harry, Bill and George Hammermeister, and three sisters, Bertha Froemke, Agnes Hammermeister and Helen Swan, as well as many dear friends and hunting & fishing partners. He is survived by his daughter, Carol of San Mateo, CA; son, Dennis of Yakima, WA; grandchildren, Jill Davino and Sarah Parrish; great grandchildren, Gianna, Dominic & Anthony Davino and Zoe Parrish; also many special nieces, nephews, and friends too numerous to mention.
Herb was self employed in fruit growing. He worked 16 years for W.P. Fuller Glass Company, 13 years for Snokist Growers Cannery and 11 years for Northwest Packing Company, retiring in 1989. Herb was a lifelong member and officer of the Lutheran Church and a charter member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church.
Herb enjoyed hunting, camping, playing baseball, pool, horseshoes, card games and dancing with Ruth.
Herb and family want to extend a special thanks to the Crescent Place Retirement Apartments for the excellent care received during his 4 ½ year stay.
Visitation will be on Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 4 – 8 p.m. at Langevin-Mussetter Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 21st at West Hills Memorial Park, followed by a memorial service and luncheon at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olive Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mount Olive Lutheran Church or the Crescent Place Activities Fund in Herb’s name.
