Growing up in Enid was an experience. As a child Irene, her sisters and brother rode horses to school. In the snowy winters they used a sleigh. When winter storms were too bad to travel, they would have to stay in town for the night. Irene met the love of her life, Rodney R. Layman and they were married on June 6, 1942. They settled in Lower Naches Valley where they farmed cherries, apples and pears until retirement. They enjoyed dances, family gatherings and playing cards with family and friends. Both had wonderful senses of humor enjoyed by all who knew them. Their marriage was blessed for 61 years until Rodney passed away March 15, 2002. Irene had total faith in God.
