James "Jim" Fredrick Meyers

Jim was born November 9, 1930 in Seattle, Washington, and came to Yakima with his family when he was 2 years old. He graduated Yakima High School in 1949.

He met his future wife, Carolyn, through mutual friends. In January of 1951, he joined the Navy, and the two married later that year after he finished boot camp. He served aboard a seagoing tender in the Western Pacific and later a carrier off Korea, and was discharged in November 1954.

Jim tested as a pipefitter, then as a steamfitter, and became a state-certified welder. Over the years he put refrigeration into ten or twelve warehouses around the valley, worked on the Walnut overpass at the railroad, welded the bracing that held tilt-up buildings across the area, and spent several years working at Central Washington University.

In 1970 he helped build the family home, doing a lot of the work himself. He stained all the woodwork and molding and installed the heating and plumbing himself. The rocks dug out of the property became two walls. Once the house was standing, he started in on a large shop. After retirement, he and Carolyn traveled in their motor home and took a couple of cruises.

He was a kind and quiet man who loved his family and working with his hands.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn, of 72 years, in 2023. He is survived by his children, Janet Meyers, Stephen Meyers, and Karen Hyatt; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at Keith & Keith Funeral Home, 902 West Yakima Ave, Yakima, WA 98902, US, on August 26, 2026, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A Committal Service will take place at West Hills Memorial Park, 11800 Douglas Rd, Yakima, WA 98908, US, on August 27, 2026, at 10:00 am.
