February 28, 1952 - June 18, 2026
Jeanie House Oberlander, a beloved sister, aunt, and lifelong friend, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2026, in Yakima, Washington.
She was born on February 28, 1952, to Elmer and Viola House. Jeanie grew up in the Yakima area. She attended Ahtanum Valley School in Wiley City and graduated from West Valley High School before continuing her education at beauty school in Yakima.
On April 22, 1989, Jeanie married the love of her life, Dick Oberlander. Together, they shared 13 wonderful years of marriage before his passing in 2002. She and Dick built a life with many adventures that included tent and trailer camping, cruises with family and friends, and decorating the outdoors of their property in Kittitas for every holiday.
Some of Jeanie's early jobs were babysitting, kitchen helper for her cousin, Betty Gilbert, and worked in the kitchen for the West Valley Conservation Camp. Jeanie was known for her incredible work ethic, sharp leadership, and a career that grew from a seasonal position into a lifelong professional journey. She first joined Bi-Mart during the busy Christmas season, working in the camera department. Impressed by her talent and dedication, the company quickly offered her full- time employment. Over her successful tenure with Bi-Mart, Jeanie accepted opportunities that took her to North Bend, Oregon (Coos Bay area) and Walla Walla, eventually returning closer to home to serve as the store manager for the Ellensburg location.
Jeanie was the kind of person who made ordinary moments feel special. She baked sweets for people she loved, arranged flowers with a careful eye and decorated for every holiday with the kind of enthusiasm that turned a house into a home. She gave her time generously to the seniors at the Wiley Heights Covenant Church, showing up with the same warmth she brought to everything she did.
Her pets Sophie, Muffy and Dotty were dear to her.
Jeanie is preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Viola House, and beloved husband, Dick Oberlander. She is survived by her brothers, Curtis House and Chester House (Shirley), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of lifelong friends who will miss her dearly.
The family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude and special thanks to family members, Nadyne Snipes and Sandy Erlewine, for their support before and after her health began to fail. Thanks for helping with errands, pet care, clerical work, and managing mail. Thanks also to employee, Donna Weiss for providing essential transportation and light housekeeping.
Burial will be at Terrace Heights Memorial Park where she will be buried next to her husband Dick.
Family, friends and all who knew Jeanie are invited to a Celebration of Life Reception (Open House) at the Wiley Heights Covenant Church, 12504 Gilbert Rd, Yakima WA August 1, 2026 10AM - 12PM.
