Jeff graduated from Wapato High School in 1977. From the very beginning, he was known as an “easy one,” as his mother lovingly described—a reflection of the gentle, steady soul he remained throughout his life. Jeff carried that same warmth and quiet strength into everything he did.
He dedicated 15 years of hard work for Adrian Lommers and Lommers Farms and served his community with pride as a volunteer firefighter for District 5 for 20 years. In April 2004, Jeff began working for the county, where he remained a loyal and committed employee until his final day. Jeff and Gregg had the opportunity to work together and share many laughs together at work giving each other nicknames as Herb and Vern, Jeff called Gregg Herb most of the time.
In January of 1988, Jeff married the love of his life, Judy. Together they shared 37 beautiful years of marriage. Jeff loved Judy deeply and took the very best care of her, always putting her first and showing what true devotion looks like.
Jeff shared a lifelong bond with his family, including a memorable and humorous moment when Larry lost a $100 bet to his brother Gregg over who would get married first—Gregg claimed the win and Larry had to pay up, Jeff’s baby sister Amy said I had to “earn” rides on the dirt bike when I was little. If I could throw a tennis ball and hit him while he was riding past then he would give me a ride. Many more stories remained a cherished family memory.
Jeff had a passion for dirt bikes, which became one of the greatest joys of his life—and even led him to meeting Judy. He spent countless hours riding trails across Washington, embracing the freedom and happiness it brought him. He also enjoyed bow hunting and go-karts, but dirt biking was where his heart truly lived.
To know Jeff was to feel comforted. His kindness, his gentle nature, and his shy smile made everyone around him feel at ease. He was always willing to lend a hand, always there when someone needed him, and never asked for anything in return.
Survived by: His loving wife Judy Nelson, his parent Larry and Enid Nelson, brother Gregg and Trish Nelson, his sister Amy and Don Eckman, nephew Travis and Lacey Nelson, Niece Samantha Nelson and Cesar Ramirez and numerous nieces and nephew. His grandkids Shelina Turner(Jeff Overholt), Andrew Thompson, Shane and Nichole Thompson, Kenny and Jessica Thompson, Nathan and Joy Thompson, Braeton and Brianna Reames. Along with many great grandchildren and taken in many others along the way. Jeff was a deeply beloved uncle and Papa. He always took his time with all of the kids, matching his pace to theirs and creating individual bonds. Every grandchild, niece, nephew, and younger family member holds precious, lifelong memories of his patience, attention, and unconditional love.
Jeff’s passing leaves a space that can never be filled. He was truly an amazing man, deeply loved, and will be missed beyond words.
