

Jerry Edward Ryan (90) went to be with his Lord on August 14, 2013. He was born on June 18, 1923 in the homestead ranch house his father built on Antoine Creek (8 miles NE of Chelan, WA) to Harry and Lillian Ryan.
He was the first of six children and grew up on the ranch riding horses and herding cattle. Jerry graduated from Chelan High School as an all sports athlete during which he picked peaches, thinned apples and worked for the forest service.
In 1943, Jerry entered the Naval Air Corps. He spent 3 years in pilot and officer training, stationed in Oklahoma and Kansas. He was a World War II veteran. Jerry started college in 1946 at WSU and then transferred to EWU majoring in education. He married Dolores Brotten in 1948. They moved to Yakima after graduation where he taught in the Yakima School District for 30 years. He taught elementary and junior high for 26 years, he coached basketball and baseball at Washington Junior High and was a traffic safety teacher at Davis High School.
Many people in Yakima remember Jerry as a high school football, basketball, baseball and softball official for many years. He also umpired college games at CWU. As an avid sports fan and supporter Jerry became a member of the Yakima Quarterbacks Club and was the host of the Hospitality Room at the Sun Dome for all state tournaments.
In retirement, Jerry and Dee traveled extensively in their motor home touring the United States, making many new friends and visiting family. They were members of the Sunshine Sams RV Club.
Jerry was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church and a deacon for many years.
Jerry is survived by his brothers, Pete and Tom Ryan; his sisters, Rosie Dodson, Ann Pepple and Louise Griffin; his four children, Jim (Marilyn) Ryan, Randy (Sue) Ryan, Tamra Rance and Kelly (Heidy) Ryan; eight grandchildren, Jeff and Jill Ryan, Anne Hatcher and Chris Ryan, Jennifer and Marcus Rance, Rein and Tyler Frankie; seven great-grandchildren, Justin, Jocelyn and Jacob Ryan, Kyrra Carlson and Wyatt Wenz-Ryan, Emma Boyden and Blake Ryan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Parker Youth and Sports Foundation.
A memorial service at First Presbyterian Church will be held at Noon on Friday, August 23, 2013.
