

Joan Elaine Smith, 92, of Yakima, WA passed away on August 16 in Yakima. She was born on June 1, 1934, to parents Andy and Irene (Lynn) Anderson in Ellensburg, WA. Joan received her early education in Sunnyside, WA. On June 18, 1950, she married the love of her life Robert C. Smith. Joan was a homemaker and worked at 4-10 market.
Joan enjoyed traveling, baking (everyone asked for her apple pie for Christmas), playing various board games (scrabble pro) and going to the casino. Joan and Bob traveled quite often going to Sweden, many Cruises and even living in their motorhome for a few years adventuring the US. Joan knew how to make the most with very little. She was never one to walk past a penny or be wasteful saying “That’s how we get to go places".
Joan was the most honest person one could trust her to know all the facts, dates and who was being truthful.
Joan is survived by her adored husband of 76 years Robert (Bob) Smith of Yakima, daughter Linda Miller of Lakewood, WA, Grandkids Joshua Smith of Lakewood, WA, Travis Smith of Las Vegas, NV, Deedra Smith of Lakewood, WA, Lester Smith of Sunnyside, WA, and five great grandchildren. Brother Gunnar Anderson of Sunnyside, WA, Sharon Killian of Sunnyside, WA, Nori Murray of Silver Lake, WA, and Karon Groenweg of Sunnyside, WA. She is also survived by many friends and extended family members including Special friends Jo Smith and Anna Smith (daughter - in-law).
Joan is proceeded in death by her parents, sister’s Arlene and Clarence, sons Robert Smith Jr., Scott Smith and grandson Chad Smith.
A graveside memorial will be held Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside, WA.
