After a courageous battle with cancer John (Jack) Shuel passed away October 21, 2017. He was born on April 3, 1934 in Wray, Colorado, and was the second of four boys born to Willard and Lucille (Minton) Shuel. In March of 1942, the Shuel family moved to Yakima, WA where he attended local schools starting with Broadway.
On November 17, 1956, he married the love of his life, Darlene Ruth Evans in Selah, Washington. They not only spent time together at home and traveling, but they also worked together since 1971. Jack loved spending time with his family.
Jack was in the construction business, operating heavy equipment. He and two partners started Cook Shuel Lowe Construction Company in the 60’s. They did work on both sides of the Cascades. He lived in the Lynnwood, WA area for about six years before returning to Yakima in 1971. In 1971 he had the opportunity to buy Meredith Furniture from his Uncle and Aunt, Leo and Anna (Shuel) Meredith. With great enthusiasm he came to work every day until his illness kept him home. His son Michael and Grandson Matthew were blessed to work with him.
He always looked forward to his weekly lunch outings with his brothers and his friends where they would always flip coins to see who picked up the check. He also enjoyed fishing trips to Alaska with his brothers and friends.
Jack was a member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church.
Jack is survived by his wife of 60 years, Darlene Shuel, two children, Michael (Jan) Shuel of Yakima, David (Virgina) Shuel of Corona, CA, five grandchildren: Jennifer (Chase) Webster of Yakima, Bradley (Emily) Shuel of Shoreline, WA, Matthew Shuel of Yakima, Stephanie Shuel of Boise, ID, Ryan Shuel of Boise, ID; two great grandchildren, Bentlie Webster and Jaxton Webster of Yakima, his brother Raymond Shuel and sister-in-law Yvonne Shuel both of Yakima and numerous nephews and nieces.
