With deep sadness, we announce that Jose G. Acob Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great-great grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2024 in Yakima, WA at the age of 92 with his family lovingly by his side. He was born on September 25, 1931 in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya, in the Philippines to loving parents who instilled in him a strong work ethic and deep sense of family values.
Jose will be deeply missed by his devoted wife Juanita Johns-Acob; daughters Josephine Acob-Campbell (Daryl) and Barbara Acob Hernandez (Robert); sons Jose Acob Jr and Anthony Acob; as well as his 8 cherished grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Phillip Acob.
Some harrowing events at the end of World War II caused Jose to immigrate to the USA in 1947 on a student VISA. However, he decided against school and went straight to work.
After several years working as an assistant in a bakery, he decided to return to school to learn to become a baker. After completing school, he moved his family from Mt Vernon to the lower Yakima Valley and soon opened the Friendly City Bakery and the Polynesian Restaurant in Toppenish, WA. In his free time, Jose loved to fish, dance, and most of all, to garden.
Jose was our family leader. He always led the prayer on Sunday before our family day gatherings. Aside from his Sunday prayer, he spoke few words as his presence with his family is what he valued. He also took time to ensure that the family always treated each other with love and respect. Above all, he will be remembered for all the heart he shared with friends and family. He truly loved each of them. And, if you knew Jose, you knew of his deep love.
His last day began as a dreary, cold day with snow, hail, and rain. But, at 3:08 PM a beautiful rainbow was seen in the sky when Jose finally entered his final rest.
Shortly before his passing he said, “I am not worried! My mansion is secured. When the end time come, God will take out spirit and return us back to dust. If we believe that our spirit will come back again or what we will be resurrected, then we will enjoy the paradise that God has prepared for us forever.” Our hope is that someday all will be ready to join him in that mansion prepared by God.
