Juanita Layne, loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and friend went to be with her Lord December 20, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born January 2, 1925 in Lubbock, TX. Her family moved to Oklahoma where she was raised with her 8 siblings. At age 19 she moved to Yakima, WA where she later met and married Oscar Leon Adams. Together they raised a family of 5 children. They accepted God’s call to ministry and pastored several churches in Yakima and Missouri until his death in 1971. Juanita loved caring for her home and church family.

In 1974 she married Rev. James Layne. Together they pastored New Hope Chapel for 25 years. They served as District Superintendents for the Pentecostal Church of God for 4 years. She loved her work as a women’s ministry leader in many capacities. Whether she was cooking the meals or preaching, she did it all with all her heart.

The Adams/Layne family started as 9 children that Juanita and James loved with all their heart. There were many parties and picnics and camping trips and dinners with lots of laughter and love. These last few months she was surrounded by her children, 21 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. Her Godly advice and love has lead them and she will be greatly missed by them all.

Juanita’s greatest joy in life was serving others and working in the ministry. She shared Jesus wherever she went for 75 years of her life. She truly lived a lifestyle of “what would Jesus do”.

She was preceded in death by her husband Rev. James Layne, son Rick Adams. She is survived by her sister Helen Prichard, children Joyce Tabor, Donna (Larry) Richardson, Vicki Munson, Peggy (Tony) Drake, Linda (Jerry) Goodman, Jerry (Mary) Layne, Geneva (Duane) Frazier, Jim (Connie) Layne. Numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. And of course her precious dog Sandy.

We want to thank Highgate Senior Living staff for loving our mom this past year and providing excellent care.

A Visitation Service will be held at Langevin El Paraiso Funeral Home, 1010 W Yakima Ave. Yakima, WA on December 29,2019 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. Sister Layne was one of the people who I met first at the church she was so sweet and every week when I would come she would greet me with her sweet smile that just uplifted me so much. She always made you feel right at home when she greeted you.I will miss passing by her seat and smilling at me and I would lean over to greet her with a hug and a distance kiss. Her smile was so overwelming. She always knew who you were. Her love of God shinned in her face. She will deeply be missed by all.

Sister Layne was so special to Teresa and I, her and Bro. Layne so touched and formed our lives. Many precious memories like the time I had major shoulder surgery, it was Bro. Layne who visited me in the hospital and prayed for me, to the many camps that Teresa and Sister Layne served in the kitchen together, to the time we stopped with our boys in Moses Lake and they would not let us leave until they made homemade chicken and dumplings and filled our bellies, to the time they encouraged us on a cold December night, we were so hurt and discouraged but they loved, supported, and taught us so much! Will miss them dearly.

Jaunita had a beautiful way of making you feel like you were important and special. She was always so kind and her smile was contagious. She raised the most beautiful human beings that are so much like her. Full of love and kindness. She will be missed. I will never forget her. She told the most amazing stories about her life and i will never forget those either. Heaven is an ever better place then it was before because it has Jaunita running the west wing of it im sure! Love you Jaunita and see you soon!

She was a truly beautiful lady. I'll miss her smile. And her love for God. I could be having a bad day and when I would see her, my day would be so much better. I'll miss you.

Helen and I have so many memories...mine started about 1959 in Yakima. What a beautiful and fun lady to be around. Her chicken and dumplings, keen sense of humor, Godly life, and great wisdom made up just a small part of all that Juanita was.
What a precious reunion Heaven will be.

It has been an honor to serve along side Pastors Jim and Juanita Layne. My Mother always told us she was her best friend. We assisted them for many years at New Hope and was blessed to have them as true friends. Only a few people in my life call me danny and Sis Layne was one of them, we felt that comfortable with each other. She was a mother and a friend to everyone, and a prayer warrior in the church. She had the biggest smile of anyone I ever knew. We were honored to have Rick as our administrator for many years, before his passing. I always felt the love that Jim and Juanita had for Judy and myself. She will be missed but never forgotten and always appreciated. Love you Sis Layne.
