Born January 6, 1918, in Tacoma, WA, Juanita grew up in a family of 9 brothers and 1 sister born spanning the years from 1900 until 1922.
Husband, Henry, and Juanita were married in 1935 and made Yakima their home for the next 79 years. Henry passed in February, 1993.
Juanita and Henry had 4 children, Richard and wife, Mary Joanne of Richland; Jerry and wife, Carol, of Spokane; Donald who passed away in 1967 while serving in the U.S. Navy in the Philippines, and Bonnie and husband, Larry Kupp, of Mt. Vernon.
Juanita loved spending time in the mountains of Washington. The family built a cabin that had no running water or electricity, at Horseshow Cove, Lake Rimrock, in the early 1950’s and then “progressed” to tent camping after the sale of the cabin. Many family vacations were spent tent camping and hiking at Ohanapacosh and surrounding areas. It was a good day when spent around a campfire and on a mountain trail. Remembrance of one evening in a tent, camping, and scaring a bear away banging on a cooking pot didn't keep her from coming back to the woods. From there, the family camping evolved to a 16 foot trailer- 1 small double bed for Mom and Dad, an overhanging cot for Bonnie; Jerry and Don on the dinette that made into a bed and Dick on the floor! Yes, it was the “Ring Sardines”. Juanita continued her love of hiking long into her 80’s with friends of similar interests. Her favorite books were those on hikes in Washington.
She and Henry, after retirement, continued their love of the outdoors, now in an RV. They spent many years being “Snowbirds” wintering in Lake Havasu, Quartzite and Apache Junction in Arizona, with old friends and new friends they met in their travels.
Juanita had 8 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Happy times were spent often around birthdays and holidays.
