She was born January 6, 1937, in Yakima, Washington, to Trygve and Marion Stubsjoen.
Kay spent most of her married life in the Yakima Valley. She was married to the love of her life, Melvin Tandberg.
Kay retired after many years as a cook for the Union Gap School District, where she was known for her hard work and caring nature.
One of Kay's greatest passions was square dancing. She was active in the square dance community throughout her life, traveling to dances, helping with clubs and organizations, and forming countless friendships along the way. Square dancing brought her great joy and was an important part of her life.
Kay was a warm and social person who touched the lives of many. Since her passing, her family has been deeply moved by the stories people have shared about the ways she inspired them and made a difference in their lives. She was always ready with a smile, a laugh, and one of her wonderful hugs. Those who knew her will especially remember that Kay gave the very best hugs.
Kay is survived by her sons, Kevin Tandberg and his partner, Carla Nakashima, and Daron Tandberg and his wife, Kresin Tandberg; her grandchildren, Jason Perez, Janelle and Sergio Carrera, and Marcy Gonzalez; and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Tandberg and her daughter, RyeDean Gonzalez.
Her warmth, generous spirit, infectious smile, and unforgettable hugs will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
A visitation will be held will be held at Keith & Keith Funeral Home, 902 West Yakima Ave, Yakima, WA 98902, on September 1, 2026, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Keith & Keith Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service will immediately follow at West Hills Memorial Park, 11800 Douglas Rd, Yakima, WA 98908. After the graveside service, family and friends are invited to gather for a reception and share memories of Kay.
