Larry W. Taylor received his angel wings on January 2, 2023 surrounded by his loving family.
Larry was born on August 11, 1961 in Fort Worth, Texas to Bill and Marion “Lynn” Taylor. Being the son of an Airman, Larry moved around a lot. He spent his childhood in Texas, North Dakota, Puerto Rico and Kansas. Being the youngest of three children, Larry, his brother Terry and sister Vicky were always up to something. Oh, the stories Larry told of giant snow drifts as tall as a house, spiders the size of your hand, amazing thunderstorms on the plains and of course chasing his sister with snakes and firecrackers.
In 1971, upon his father’s retirement from the Air Force, Bill and Lynn moved their family to Yakima, Washington. In his youth, Larry was a part of the Boy Scouts and the Independent Order of Junior Odd Fellows. He also enjoyed racing around town in his 1972 Chevy Nova. In July of 1976, Larry met the future Queen of his Castle at the age of 14. Larry and Lynette were high school sweethearts. They were married on October 26, 1979 and shared 43 wonderful years together.
Larry graduated from A.C. Davis High School in 1979. During his time as a Pirate, he enjoyed singing in the Aeolian Choir and making mischief with his best friend Jerry Denman. In 1981, Larry joined the Army. He completed his basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Soon after, Larry and Lynette were stationed at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, where they spent 18 months. One of his favorite trips during this time was to Plymouth Rock to see where the Mayflower Landed.
In 1983, Larry and Lynette were stationed in Katterbach, Germany. During their 3 year stay, Larry worked as a Radio Technician. During their time in Germany, Larry and Lynette loved to travel. A few memorable trips were to visit the many castles all throughout Germany and to Paris, where they stood on the second floor of the Eiffel Tower overlooking the City of Lights at night.
In August of 1985, Larry and Lynette welcomed their first child, Danielle Lynn. In 1986, Larry and his little family moved back to the states to be with their extended family. Back in Yakima, Larry and Lynette would continue to build a beautiful life together for the next 37 years.
In 1990, Larry became an accountant for Ring Video. He would spend over 15 years with Herb and Donna Ring. In November of 1995, Larry and Lynette welcomed their second child, Dawn Marie. In 1997, Larry finally got his boy! They welcomed Billy Thomas in December and their little family was complete.
In 2004, Larry went to work as an independent contractor transporting medical supplies. In 2009, Larry proudly gained a new name, PawPaw, when Collin Gage was born. In 2011, Larry returned to accounting and worked at Mike Olsen Dodge. In 2012, Larry became a PawPaw again when Madilyn Rose was born. In 2015, Larry decided it was time to retire and be able to spend more time with his family.
Larry enjoyed traveling, camping, watching the History Channel and his favorite football team, the Packers, Go Pack Go! Larry also loved his dog Shadow, spending time with his family and tinkering around the house. He was always making plans for the next big project to complete, that he never seemed to actually finish!
Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Marion “Lynn” Taylor along with many aunts and uncles. He is survived by his loving wife, Lynette. His children, Danielle (Jesse), Dawn and Billy. His grandchildren, Collin and Madilyn. His brother Terry (Vicky) and sister Vicky (Dennis), his great aunt Annette (Johnny) along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. We can’t forget his dog Shadow, who he loved so dearly.
Larry’s family wish to express our deepest gratitude to Holli, Blanca and “Popeye” at Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital for the many kind acts of sympathy, compassion and excellent care over the last few days we had with Larry.
A viewing for Larry will be held on Friday January 6th from 4:00-8:00 pm at Langevin Funeral Home (1010 W. Yakima Avenue). A graveside service will be held on Thursday January 12th at 1:00 pm at Tahoma Cemetery (1802 Tahoma Avenue).
