On Thursday, November 3rd, 2016 Lavina Rose (Ruff) Sink was gently lifted up in the arms of her loving Father. Lavina was born on February 7th, 1928 in Yakima, WA to Gray and Pauline Ruff. She stayed in Yakima throughout her childhood, graduating from Yakima High School.
Lavina and Paul Sink were married on November 18th, 1949. With God’s guidance Paul and Lavina raised five children: Paula (Smay) deceased, Linda (Calahan), Vicki (Gill), Jon (Sink), and Marcy (Brown).
Lavina worked a variety of jobs: Secretary for Central Heating and Plumbing, sorter at Libby’s cannery, and caregiver for grandchildren and family friends. She ended her professional career as secretary at First Baptist Church.
She was a quiet woman whose focus was always on her family. She loved flowers, especially peonies and roses. She could usually be found working on a good book, crossword puzzle, word search, or watching a soap opera, but her favorite activity was a family gathering.
In spite of many health issues later in life, including beating breast cancer at 83, Lavina never complained. People always complimented her beautiful smile and smooth, youthful skin, but all she ever used was Ivory soap.
Loved and missed by many, she will be joyfully reunited with her loving husband, Paul; parents, Gray and Pauline; daughter, Paula Jean; great-great grandson Aiden; granddaughter, Brandi; brothers, Earl and Wilbur; and sisters, Edith and Marie. Her brother the Reverend Clifford Ruff and wife Phyllis currently live in Omaha, Nebraska.
“Nothing of beauty is ever lost. It is only changed from glory into glory.”
There will be viewing Sunday the 13th from 12-4 at Keith & Keith Funeral Home. On Monday the 14th there will be a memorial service at the old First Baptist Church at 515 E. Yakima Avenue at 11 am with a graveside service at West Hills Cemetery immediately following. There will be no reception.
