Madeline Anne Remy passed away surrounded by family on February 2, 2019, just shy of her 10th birthday. She was a 4th grader at Cottonwood Elementary. She was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor in August 2017 and brought joy and love to all while bravely enduring months of radiation, chemotherapy and other medical procedures.
Madeline was born on April 3, 2009, in Yakima, Washington. She loved being a big sister and best friend to her younger sister, Emily Rose. She excelled in academics and attended Oakridge Montessori and Cottonwood Elementary. Madeline loved her Oakridge and Cottonwood families.
Gifted in so many ways, she expressed her artistic passion through painting, bracelet-making and building complex and award-winning Lego structures. Her work was recognized at the Lego competitions in both July and December, 2018. She was also an avid swimmer and enjoyed learning to ski at White Pass.
Madeline enjoyed traveling. She loved being a camper at Camp Zanika, a Campfire camp, on Lake Wenatchee. She explored the Oregon Coast, Park City, Mexico, Suncadia Resort, Disney World and Disneyland, and Hawaii. Thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Madeline enjoyed the trip of her lifetime with her family to the Aulani Disney resort in Kapolei, Hawaii.
Madeline’s generosity and love for life and others sustained long after her diagnosis of Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, (DIPG), a very rare and deadly childhood brain tumor. Even while being treated for DIPG at Seattle Children’s Hospital, she crafted eyepatches for other children receiving the same treatment.
