

She grew up and attended school in Morgan City, graduating from Morgan City High School. She was always interested in learning and was an avid reader and took classes in knitting, sewing, religion and college computer courses.
Mamie married James C. Morrison (JC) on September 26, 1940 in Morgan City, LA. They were high school sweethearts. They moved to Yakima, Washington in 1944, where JC worked for the City of Yakima and Mamie worked as a housekeeper and cannery worker. She was a member of Bethel AME where she was a Sunday school superintendent and choir member. Later she became a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She held many positions in a multitude of organizations, Housing Authority, night caps, Democratic Party Precinct committee chair, Majors Committee on Human Rights, RSVP, and a member of the Catholic Daughters, where she was a Washington State Regent to name just a few.
Mamie is survived by her two daughters, Marion H. Vinson and Belinda A. Morrison of Seattle; 7 Grandchildren, Kim Blake, Raymond Thill, Tonia Gray, Shawna Gray, Jason Vinson, Jeannine Vinson and Trenton Morrison-Hibbard; 12 Great Grandchildren, Nicolas, Paris, James C., Te’Anna, Miracle, Lamont, Brandon, Semaiah, Jason Jr, Mason, James M. and Madison; 2 Great Great Grandchildren, Claire and Jaylen and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband J.C.; daughter, Nadine and granddaughter, Star Anita; brothers, Jesse Wayne and Sherney Bradford and sisters, Addie Rita Alexander, Beulah Ruffin and Barbara Oten.
Viewing will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 4 to 8 pm, with a rosary at 6pm at Keith & Keith Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 10 am at St. Josephs Catholic Church with internment to follow at West Hills Memorial Park.
