Mom spent her early years in Utah and attended Hinkley High School. During WWII, her family relocated to Granger, WA. Mom graduated from Granger High School in 1944 where she was Salutatorian, member of the Torch Honor Club, the newspaper Art Editor and a member of the drill team.
After graduation, Mom attended Griffin-Murphy Business College in Seattle in 1945. Mom then moved to Yakima where she worked for the Social Security Administration Office.
Mom met and fell in love with a handsome man named John (Jack) Couette. They were married on January 21, 1950 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Yakima. This union resulted in the birth of eight children and lasted 62 years until Dad’s death in 2012.
Mom and Dad raised a family of 8 kids -- Bob, Linda, Larry, Doug, Steve, Diane, Greg and Mary. She was very proud of each of her kids and especially proud of her 13 grandchildren.
Mom was a homemaker while the kids were small. She was a great cook and provided us with good meals. She taught us all to make the family favorites so these meals are still enjoyed by her kids and grandkids. Mom made cookies and cakes by the boatload to fill our school lunches and satisfy our sugar cravings.
Mom was an excellent seamstress and sewed our clothes for years. She was also skilled with various crafts. All of her kids and grandkids received crocheted afghans.
Mom attended all of her kids events, whether it was sports, Boy Scouts, Camp Fire or school programs. When the grandkids came along, she made every effort to attend their events and cheer them on.
Mom went back to work after her kids were all in school. She worked as a secretary for Grange Insurance, retiring after twenty years. Mom bowled on several teams and was a member of two pinochle clubs. She loved to play many card and board games in which we had numerous rambunctious competitions over the years.
Mom was a member of Holy Redeemer Parish and belonged to the St. Theresa’s Guild for many years.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Bernice Golob, her husband, John Couette and her brother Robert Golob. She is survived by her children, Bob and Jan Couette, Linda Couette, Larry and Peggy Couette, Doug and Linda Couette, Diane and Joe Caldwell and Greg and Terri Couette all of Yakima; Steve and Jill Couette of Selah and Mary Couette of Richland; her grandchildren Larry & Jenn Thompson, Shannon and Matt Couette, Michelle Charbonneau, John and Danni Couette, Gabe and Vincent Couette, Andy Couette and Tony and Malorey Caldwell, Alex Couette and Nina Swiacki and Heather and Josh Couette.
