She has one son, Luis Orellana, and three daughters, Esperanza Amaya, Blanca Centeno and Maria Roberina Orellana. From her generation she has 12 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Maria Luz loved taking care of the needs of everyone in her family and was a hard working single mother for all her four children. She got to see her daughter Esperanza graduate with honors at El Salvador University; she also got to see many of her grandchildren graduate from universities in the US and was very proud of all of them. She loved dogs, going out to eat, going on vacations, and especially spending time with family.
