Martha was born in Williams, California February 14, 1926 to Jose Garcia and Maria Consuelo Reynoso. She was the second child of four. She married Solomon Capetillo and they made their home in Sheboygan, Wisconsin until 1977 when they moved to Yakima. She will be remembered as a woman who served the Lord; a woman strong in her faith. Martha was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family and always looked forward to the holiday gatherings that brought them all together. Martha took pleasure in the simple blessings of life such as her appreciation for colors and various floral prints. Some of Martha’s favorite past times were gardening, watching baseball, supporting her Green Bay Packers play football, and watching the occasional wrestling matches on TV; La Lucha Libre. In her moments of solace, peace, and clarity you could always find her reading her bible and singing praise to her Lord and Savior. She never wavered in her ability to keep everyone she loved and came in contact with in prayer; she prayed without ceasing. Martha would always say “Serve the Lord” because she wanted others to know of the love and appreciation she had for Christ and His ability to never let anyone down.
Martha was very proud of her grandson, SSgt Alfredo Garza Jr., who serves in the U.S. Air Force Reserves, stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McCord, Washington and her grandson, Sgt Joseph Z. DeLeon who serves in the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed at Camp Butler in Okinawa, Japan. Both of which have proudly served our country overseas in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom/Enduring Freedom.
Martha is lovingly survived by her eight children; Henry and Kathy Capetillo of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, Maria and Juan Gonzalez of Yakima, Samuel and Rose Capetillo of Lake Stevens, Linda and Alfredo Garza of Yakima, Helen Capetillo of Yakima, Elizabeth Capetillo of Kennewick, Saul Capetillo of Yakima, Esmeralda and Rick Friedrick of Yakima, two sisters; Maria Elena Calderon de Garcia, Maria Teresa Reynoso de Espinosa, thirty-one grandchildren, and thirty-three great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Solomon Capetillo, two sons; Solomon Jr. and Bernardo, he served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He earned several commendations, including a Purple Heart, and was honorably discharged as a Specialist 4th Class; great-grandson, Caleb Gutierrez, her parents, and her sister Abelina Reynoso de Garcia.
The Capetillo Children would like to extend their personal thanks to their Aunt Maria Capetillo-Reyes who over the years exceeded her role as sister-in-law and served beyond what was expected as Martha’s true Best Friend. Aunt Maria, on countless occasions, encouraged Martha providing great council in times of sorrow and rejoicing with her in times of happiness. Her love and admiration for Martha will forever be appreciated.
