Mary Patricia Egan

Mary Patricia Egan was born on September 10, 1947, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Fred and Pauline Egan. She passed away on July 29, 2026, in Yakima, Washington, following a brief illness.

Mary was raised and educated in Missouri Valley, Iowa, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Iowa. She lived in Omaha, Nebraska, where she worked as a bookkeeper until relocating to Yakima in 2005 to be closer to her brother and sister-in-law. She continued her bookkeeping career in Yakima until retiring just a few months before her passing.

Mary developed a passion for contract bridge in the 1980s and became a highly competitive regional player. She competed in regional and national tournaments sanctioned by the American Contract Bridge League. In 1981, she married fellow competitive bridge player Michael Albert, and together they devoted much of their time to competing in tournaments throughout the country.

In 1986, Mary discovered ballroom dancing and became an accomplished American Pro-Am competitor. She spent seven years competing on the national Pro-Am circuit. After moving to Yakima, she shared her experience and enthusiasm with the local dance community by joining USA Dance Yakima Chapter 1022. As chairperson, she helped organize and establish the chapter's first local dance showcase.

After settling in Yakima, Mary also developed a love for golf. She was an active participant in local women's golf leagues and competitions throughout the region. In April 2014, she achieved a memorable hole-in-one on the third hole at Sun Tides Golf Course.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Pauline Egan; her brother, Dr. James Egan; and her niece, Barbara Egan.

She is survived by her brother, John (Anne) Egan of New Hampshire; her sister-in-law, Pamela Egan of Yakima, Washington; and her nephews, John (Rachel) Egan of Merrimack, New Hampshire; Jim (Emma) Egan of Winchester, Massachusetts; Edward Egan of Seattle, Washington; and Jason Egan of Richland, Washington.

Mary will be remembered for her sharp intellect, competitive spirit, dedication to her many interests, and the lasting friendships she formed through bridge, ballroom dancing, and golf.
