

Mary celebrated her 99th birthday in October with her family. She lived in Yakima 70 years. When Holy Redeemer was built in 1962; she started volunteering and helping at the church. She was always in attendance for the many events and services. Mary would even take communion to members too ill to attend. She was a 26 year member of the Catholic Daughters; and was also a longtime member of the St. Teresa Guild. She helped support her family by working in a cannery, picking cherries and worked in local hop fields. She also worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital (Regional) laundry for many years. She always volunteered at the local food bank helping bundle food for families. Mary loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens; and always had the most beautiful flowers.
Mary is survived by four children, Delores Kester of Roslyn, Carolyn Wilburn of Yakima, Jerome (Edith) Heit of Redmond and Gloria Phillips of Gleed. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Pete Heit; son, Ted Heit; daughter, Regina Wyrick; grandson, Jerome Heit Jr.; two son-in-laws; one daughter-in-law; and her seven brothers and two sisters.

A Rosary Service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church (1707 S. 3rd Ave., Yakima). Mass of Catholic Burial will follow the Rosary Service at 11:00 A.M. at the church, with concluding services and burial at Calvary Cemetery. A luncheon will follow at Holy Redeemer Hall.
