At an early age, her family moved to Scotland, Arkansas. Graduating with a class of 16, she was the senior class secretary, typist for the school annual, a member of the Personality Club, and played on the Girls Basketball Team.
In 1947, she married her high school sweetheart Carl Kincannon in Scotland, Arkansas. They moved to Washington state where they were together for 13 years and had four children: Carolyn, Debbie, Carla and Rick. In the Spring of 1963, she married her beloved Leonard Fisher, a kind and patient man. They had one daughter, Patrecia (Trish).
When first moving to the state Mary worked alongside her first husband and his parents in the hop fields, as well as picking and thinning apples. Mary was not afraid of hard work. Besides keeping up the home, she worked seasonally in the warehouses over a fifteen year period sorting and packing apples. In 1964, she started working in the laundry at the “Yakima Valley School” for the handicapped in Selah. It wasn’t long before she became laundry manager. During her fifteen years as manager, she made many friends at the school, not only of the staff but of the children who lived there. Since her retirement in 1989, Mary has enjoyed the company of her children and grandchildren whether she travels to them or they come to her. She looked forward to her daily phone calls with Trish and Sunday visits with Rick and Linda. She also had a lifelong love of reading. Mary especially loved the family reunions and was more than willing to make a trip to the casino. Her family will miss her smile and all the memories they shared.
Mary is survived by her daughters Carolyn Wies from Mukilteo, Carla (Marc) Isett from St. Helens, OR, Patrecia L. (Joe) Peterson from Yakima, and son, Rick (Linda) Kincannon from Selah, brother John Wales and sister Jean (Bob) Cooper, as well as 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard, daughter Deborah Nebel, an infant great-granddaughter, McKenna Anne Isett, mother and dad, Gladys and Hugh Wales, brother Lindsey Wales, and an infant sister, Carolyn June Wales.
Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm, Friday, March 11, 2016 at Keith & Keith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 am, Saturday, March 12 at Rainier Memorial Center with burial to follow at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
