On Sunday morning, October 30, 2016, Mary Lois Roberts went to be with her Lord, after losing her latest battle of lung cancer. Mary was born in Santa Barbara, California on March 15, 1937 to James and Mary Agnes Cloer. She was raised by her mother, a Rosie-the-Riveter, (Mary Agnes), during the World War II with her two sisters Nancy and Helen and their brother Jim.
Mary went on to marry a sailor, Harry Roberts of Yakima, WA on June 19, 1954 in Long Beach, CA. Harry and Mary went on to have six children who they are survived by: Harry (Skip) and wife (Deborah) Roberts of Yakima, WA; Robbie Roberts of Yakima; Debbie Beaman-Zorrozua of Yakima; Richard Roberts (Tammy Chadek) of Yakima; Mary VanLeuven (Michael LaBranche) of Everett, WA; Betty (Rick) Maybee of Yakima. Mary is also survived by her brother Jim (Jean) Cloer of Tucson, AZ; 22 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren and the love of her life and partner, Chuck Davis and his four kids.
She worked a variety of jobs including laborer and equipment operator for contractors on the I-82 Interstate project. She drove for the old Pony Express, worked as a food and beverage server at the Yakima Training Center, The Phoenix, Blue Jeans Inn, and Bullwinkle’s. She also worked as a Nursing Assistant at the Old Yakima Convalescent and retired after working 11 years at St. Joseph’s Bingo in Union Gap, WA.
She loved gardening, playing bingo, rolling the dice with her kids, bowling and spending time at the slots at various casinos in the Northwest. Some of her favorite memories include a cruise out of Seattle, trips to Lincoln City, OR and her fall leaf raking parties with her kids and grandchildren.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Keith & Keith Funeral Home, with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. We encourage family and friends to join in Mary’s Celebration of Life Friday, November 4, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Tahoma Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her mother and step-father, Mary and Bill Kirby. Mom wanted everyone who knew her to put on their blue jeans and join in a western-style hoe-down, including food, but no alcohol, and lots of dancing. This will be conducted at the Wiley City Rodeo Grounds Blue Barn immediately following the graveside service on Friday.
We, the children of Mary, thank all of her doctors and nurses who made Mom’s last few years enjoyable and possible.
In lieu of flowers, and at Mom’s request, donations are asked to be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, in care of Keith & Keith Funeral Home.
