Maxine Shafer-Sorensen, age 70, passed away from this world surrounded by family and friends to be with our Heavenly Father on March 16, 2019. She was born August 6, 1948, grew up in Naches, WA and graduated in 1966.
Maxine loved people, especially children. She dedicated her working years to helping children as a pre-school teacher first and then a para-educator for Yakima School district for 20 years. She retired to take care of her husband. She always recognized the students who were struggling or didn’t get a lot of attention on their own. She took them under her wing and they knew they were loved. She always sensed what kids needed and followed her heart, and the students were better for it.
More than anything, she was always giving. If someone needed cookies, brownies or a helping hand, she was always there. We will always carry her memory in our hearts. She was truly a gift to all of us.
Maxine is survived by her brother Jack and his wife Rocky Schafer, aunts Shirley Underwood and Kathy Schafer, and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her brothers, mother and father and grandparents.
There will be a memorial service for Maxine on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at Keith & Keith Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at Tahoma Cemetery Monday, April 15th at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Women’s Shelter.
