Mel Frans was born July 7, 1920 and died June 19, 2017. Mel was a man who enjoyed his family, enjoyed camping, fishing, going out to eat, cruising and his little dog Bee Bee. Together with his wife Opal, they raised a daughter, and a family consisting of five generations. Mel was born in Auburn, WA. There he graduated high school and joined the U.S. Coast Guard. Mel proudly served and fought in WWII driving a landing barge. After his enlistment, he began work at Boise Cascade as a Clipper. During this time, he met Opal Glover. After a few short months, they got married 12/25/61. Mel always said that instead of throwing rice, they threw snowballs! They lived in Selah for over 34 years and moved to Lorelei Court for another 20 years. They finally settled at Brookdale Assisted Living almost a year ago.
Mel is survived by his wife Opal Frans, his daughter Maudileen Dunsing, his granddaughters Kim Gonzales (Patrick), Debbie Whelchel (Dave), his great grandchildren Jennifer Abroguena (Sean), Nicole Abroguena (Matt), Krista Mullinnex (Andrew), Blake Briscoe (Brittany), Patience Gonzales and four great great grandchildren, Mason, Ryder, David and Charley. Mel is preceded by his parents Fred and Selma Frans.
“Grandpa, although you are not physically here, you will always be in our hearts. We love you”.
The family would like to thank Cottage in the Meadow for Mel’s wonderful care and compassion.
A Celebration of Melvin’s life is planned at 2pm, Friday, June 30, 2017, at Rainier Memorial Center, located at 2807 Terrace Heights Drive, Yakima. To share a memory go to www.keithandkeith.com
