Morris Matthew Wolfe, age 90, of Ellensburg, WA passed away on September 16, 2026. He was born in Toppenish, WA to Matthew and Philamena Wolfe. Morris joined the United States Airforce in 1954. It was during this time he met and married the love of his life, Evelyn Burgin. They had four children, two boys and two girls. They have been married for 70 years sharing a love that was truly quite special.
As a young lad, he spent years working alongside his parents in a nursery developing a lifelong love of gardening from them. When our family moved into our house, where my mother still resides, he started working to make his yard a virtual paradise. My father found rare, beautiful flowers along with plants and trees to create a beautiful sanctuary. The gardens were lined with lava rocks which we hauled in ourselves. Various breeds of birds were drawn to our yard. Mom and Dad worked side by side every chance they could.
In 2013, Morris suffered a major stroke that caused extreme deficits which didn’t stop him. He continued to toil in his beautiful yard with help from Mom, Joshua and myself. When he could no longer garden, Joshua and I took over. We knew the importance of preserving his oasis, keeping it alive and looking gorgeous for Dad. With his limited mobility he was confined to the house but found joy and solace looking out through the windows at its beauty.
Morris was a very social person. He thrived on communicating with everyone he met. Because of his love of people, he chose to work in the retail industry working as a store manager for Safeway and later Zittings. Later, Dad changed careers and went to work for Darigold delivering milk and other dairy products to homes in the upper county. Before retiring from Darigold, he drove a big semi-truck with products for schools, grocery stores and restaurants in Kittitas County. He was greatly loved and well known. I remember my father always whistling and walking fast whether at work or gardening.
Morris was creative and very artistic in so many ways. Mom, dad and I spent years painting ceramics together. His creations line the walls and shelves throughout our house.
My father was a family man. He spent quality time with us kids. Days spent at the Columbia River, Pot Holes and Moses Lake were the norm. He loved fishing, camping and boating. He and my mom spent countless hours with my son, Joshua Steward. He learned so much from them both. They have always had a strong, special relationship.
The last 14 years had been hard on Dad. A stroke and later dementia had left him extremely impaired. It was hard for him because he did not want to leave mom. He died from acute kidney disease, riddled with pain. Dad is now free from excruciating pain and is now reunited with his parents, Matthew and Philamena and sister, Betty Adler.
He is survived by his loving wife, Evelyn; sons, Morris Jr. (Sue) Wolfe and Ricky Wolfe; daughters, Terry (Michael) Rankin and Angela (Charles) Lang; grandsons, John (Vanessa) Eslinger and Joshua (Chloe) Steward; granddaughter Melissa Oster and many other dear family and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1pm, Thursday, October 8, 2026 at St. Andrews Catholic Church with Fr. Alex Trejo as Celebrant. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Concluding service and burial will follow the Mass at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Due to my mother’s allergies and asthma, we request your gift to be only artificial flowers or plants.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Keith & Keith Funeral Home, Yakima, WA. Online condolences, memories and photos may be shared with the family at www.keithandkeith.com
