Myrna Rae Yerty was born to Alonzo Watson (Lonnie) Sedge and Effie Lora Sedge, on a beautiful spring day in May, 1936, at home in Naches, Wa. Myrna p0assed away surrounded by her loved ones on Saturday, March 14, 2015.
Myrna worked for her sister Charlotte & brother-in-law Glen Fewel at Slim’s Market but it was when she was working at the Naches theatre where she met her husband to be, Wesley Yerty. He was the projectionist at the theatre. They married on December 10th, 1957, in Coeur D’Alene, Id.
While Wes was busy working at the phone company Myrna was busy raising their children Lonni, Lee and Lori. During those years she was involved in the kids’ activities. She also helped her friends Betty Parker and Velda Welch design and construct (cutting, stapling, hammering and making costumes) for many of the Naches Lions Club floats. A couple of floats she enjoyed the most were the butterfly and the ranger bear float. She was also a member of the Naches Women’s Club where making pies for the Sportsman Days booth was the easy part, keeping them hidden from Wes was the tough part.
After Wes passed on, Myrna bought a boat and took the kids water skiing. She would also load the kids in the car and go over to her friends, Betty and Jack Parker’s home in the San Juan Islands. One particular trip when Lonni was driving, mom fell asleep, and when she woke up, we were a bit further down the road than she thought we should be. Lee and Lori were swallowing down their laughter, knowing we were going to make it to the ferry dock ahead of schedule so we could be at the front of the line.
When she became a grandmother & great grandmother she always made it a priority to instruct, love and support the kids no matter what they were interested in, from playing catch; to playing marbles, or riding bikes up to the post office. Her bike was a special antique three wheel bike with basket. The basket usually was filled with the youngest child at that time to riding to the post office or the park, while the older grandkids and neighbor kids rode in front & in back just like a parade. She was a mom and grandma to all those that needed her and loved everyone. She was always energetic and wanting to participate no matter what we were doing. She enjoyed going to sporting events, school functions, dance recitals, parades and anything they asked her to attend. She was always eager to go antiquing at the drop of a hat no matter the day. Myrna also looked forward to visiting Lee and Carrie. When spending time with them, she loved watching her grandchildren Wes, Jace and Cade. She always looked forward to seeing them and how much they had grown since her last visit with them.
She loved going to Lori’s to get her hair done twice a week. During those times if it was raining or snowing, she would throw something over her hair so it would not get messed up. She would laugh as she threw a plastic bag over her hair to keep it dry, just for that reason she always carried one in her purse.
Mom loved the springtime when she could get out to plant her petunias, and fill her yard with color. She loved hunting for Ellensburg Blues, drawing and painting, collecting antiques, refinishing furniture, getting mani-pedi’s in her favorite color of pink, playing her piano and singing hymns. From Thursday night prime rib dinners at Casper’s in Naches, or most recently, to Sunday breakfasts at Powerhouse Grill with Dee, Velda, and Company. Socializing and having a great meal were highlights of her later years. She also loved cousins weekends at Peggy’s; visiting and antiquing, anytime spent with her family and friends was a good time!!!
Myrna is survived by her children Lonni (Pete) Jahr, Lee (Carrie) Yerty, Lori (Casey) Kass; her grandchildren, Sunni (Forest) Tapscott, Summer (Jason) Clark, Cody, Carson and Carli Kass; Wes, Jace and Cade Yerty; her great grandchildren, Tanner, MaKala, MaKenze & McKara Clark, Dale and Autumn Tapscott; her brother Bill Sedge and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends whom she all loved and appreciated.
Myrna was preceded in death by her husband Wes, her parents, her sisters Charlotte Fewel, Gladys Tillett, Betty Fewel Shepard and Dorothy Sedge. Myrna’s family would like to thank Memorial Hospice and her caregivers for all the love, kindness and respect they gave to her.
